Have you ever discovered a tool and immediately felt weird about its existence?
That’s me right now with SignalHire.
(In fact, I just met SignalHire 10 minutes ago!)
Let’s back up.
I was testing ChatGPT by doxing myself — purely for science.
All it really pulled was where I go to college and where that is. Cool. But then it did its web search thing and started listing sources. Normally, these links are kinda sus — sometimes citing articles where my name isn’t even mentioned.
So I clicked one.
And surprise: SignalHire has a decent chunk of my LinkedIn info.
Which, to be fair, I put on LinkedIn knowing it’s public.
But here’s the kicker:
I’ve never heard of SignalHire.
I’ve never made an account.
I never signed up for anything.
Yet there I am — data and all.
So yeah, safe assumption: my data was scraped or sold (because of course it was).
Let’s break this tool down for anyone else who had no clue:
🔎 What Is SignalHire?
According to itself:
- Originally built for recruiters.
- Expanded to marketers, sales teams, HR, headhunters.
- Scrapes and verifies contact info: emails, phone numbers, social media links — even private accounts.
- Chrome extension lets you pull data directly from LinkedIn and elsewhere (which I do not have installed).
- “Predictive sourcing” claims it knows who’s likely to switch jobs soon.
- Database: 400+ million professional contacts worldwide.
In short:
👉 Give me anyone’s info so I can recruit, pitch, or sell to them.
🤖 Does It Use AI?
Of course I checked.
From FullEnrich:
SignalHire uses limited AI capabilities, primarily for data verification and enrichment purposes. While its AI-powered data processing helps ensure contact information accuracy, it does not offer the same level of predictive analytics as 6sense.
🧠 Wait… What Is 6sense?
New one for me too.
- B2B revenue & predictive analytics.
- Uses AI & machine learning to analyze intent data, predict buyer behavior, and give actionable insights.
- Helps enterprise sales and marketing teams target and prioritize leads with spooky levels of accuracy.
✅ My Take:
- SignalHire = People finder w/ predictive job-change flavor
- 6sense = Enterprise sales psychic with AI magic dust
😬 And My Problem?
I’m not mad that AI might help me get a job one day.
I’m mad because THIS is what it can already do:
- My data is out there.
- It can pull your personal phone number.
- It can hand it to people who will spam you, scam you, or worse.
- AI makes it easy to scale that up — fast.
The possibilities get real ugly real quick.
Honestly? The fact I didn’t even know this tool existed until today is its own little red flag.
